Thirsty Thursday. Because I get so thirsty, I need more than one drink.
The infamous ICEE. On a mild day in Southern California, I feel guilty that I’m not indulging in this too-sweet iced beverage when it’s slightly more sweltering. But alas.
I find myself a lone ranger at the ICEE machine. If this gas station were closer to a primary school I can guarantee that I’d have to elbow my way to the 16-oz cups. So I relax and look at my options. They are suspiciously inexpensive. I glance over at the Frappucinos and Redbulls, telling me to pay closer to $3 for a small portion. Today, I bought two 16-oz ICEEs for $1.98. It makes me feel young again.
Of course, if I had been accustomed to pouring an ICEE, I wouldn’t have made the following mistake:
These days I am more aware of the USD-to-Euro exchange rate, which type of gin I prefer in my martini and how to text while driving without looking like I’m texting while driving. It’s easy to forget the useful things you learned in your youth. In this case, it’s the law stating: The rate of expansion in an ICEE beverage > The rate of me remembering the rate of expansion in an ICEE beverage.
So today these two drinks are not going head to head. I prefer the Wild Cherry flavor by a long shot. It has a little more of a punch to it (Wild Cherry brings out the Lou Reed in me) which makes the aftertaste a little less saccharine. Somewhere between initial sip and final swallow, the Blue Raspberry wafts a hint of cotton candy. Is that just me? Almost as though the two had the exact same sweetness rating.
But there is one catch. Sipping both straws simultaneously, I can see why mixing the two flavors is a fan favorite. This combo cancels out the Blue’s sweetness and creates a nondescript, sweet, what-the-heck-is-in-my-mouth-but-I-couldn’t-care-less-cuz-the-colors-are-fun taste. You know the one I’m talking about.
Summer is just around the corner and it’s high time you check out the ICEE locator app. Not that I’m ICEE affiliated in any way, but I do enjoy feeling like a kid again. Oh, and the app is free.

When it’s hot enough outside, all bets are off.

Blue raspberry totally starts to taste like cotton candy after a while, and that’s why I love it!
I am craving one of these in a bad way, thanks to your post!
Have you ever tried filling it half full of one and then finishing with the second and stirring them up just a little to combine the flavors, like a swirl cake? It would be even less expensive. Oh, and thanks for liking my Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli post.
Laughed my ass off at the picture captions. Keep ‘em flowing
Your compliment inspired me to include a caption in my Trolli post. Thanks for the feedback!
I love ICEEs! I saw an orange flavor one somewhere a while ago and I never saw that flavor again
I should have tried it when I had the chance. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I followed you and will be looking forward to more of your posts
I wish I could mix orange with Coke (my favorite flavor)! That would be heaven.
Nice! I just did a Frozen Coke review on Snort Ramen. I guess it’s that time of the year for busting out the Icees. And by the way, the line “When it’s hot enough outside, all bets are off.” is aces.
I love me some Corn Nuts!
