“Okay guys, I’m gonna give this to you straight. I mean, I don’t need a promotion or anything for this. All I want is a few more high fives in the hallway, total recognition and a nameplate outside my office to read: King of Nuts. I am the biggest thing to happen to nuts since George Washington Carver … or at least I’m convinced that I am. Okay, okay. I don’t mean to draw this out, but what I’ve got is big. Big, I tell you! So we’ve been fortunate enough that Omega-3 acids are big. Fish oil, antioxidants, heart health. Buzzwords that work really well with what we do here. Sure, the peanut is fatty, but our other nuts are getting unprecedented attention. Attention we haven’t gotten before. But, it’s our time to shine. I give you my baby: NUT-rition!”
The monologue above is what I imagine the person at Planters’ in-house marketing team pitching the Nut-rition concept sounded like. (I apologize for making it ‘King of Nuts’, I have no gender preference in mind, but King sounded better).
I am glad to finally scope out more nuts at the gas station. Not only are they heart healthy, but the benefits of nuts vary by type. And as I walk up to the nut aisle of the gas station, I am like a kid in a candy shop (or, a kid in the candy aisle of the gas station). Planters Nut-rition Heart Healthy Mix hangs right next to the Blue Diamond variety I am now familiar with. I look at the nutrition label and see some high fat content, but nuts supposedly have healthy oils so I went ahead and got them.
Yes, I sorted the nuts by type, because whenever there is a mix (such as the trail variety), cheap, fatty peanuts dominate. After sorting my nuts in this order I check the package and the ingredients are listed in exactly the order I arrange them in. Considering ingredients are listed in decreasing order, Planters gives you an accurate measure of this bag’s contents.
So, my more than slight annoyance with peanuts aside, Planters Nut-rition Heart Healthy Mix is a pretty fair mix of nuts.
